Blogging mom musings Personal Thoughts

O Christmas tree… Thank you!

I don’t know about you, but as much as I get excited for all that the New Year will provide, saying goodbye to my favorite holiday season is bittersweet. I did make a point to be grateful for each ornament as they were packed up this week. The beauty these trimmings provide as well as the memories we have shared through the years has certainly multiplied. How fortunate! I was happy that my boys (husband included) contributed to the tradition of putting away the decor for another 10 months.

One main area I focused on this time was that the physical act of putting it away does not have to be an act of packing it away emotionally. I want to be mindful in keeping the good of the season as an everyday feeling. I believe by doing so there will be less of a void in January. We put so much time and thought into decorating, shopping, cooking, gift-giving, gathering, and then it all stops. The sudden drop in activity and memory making tends to be jarring. Be kind to yourself and embrace the next season with a grateful heart and fresh eyes.

What will you do to keep the goodness of the season with you year-round?

It’s true, Christmas can feel like a lot of work, particularly for mothers. But when you look back on all the Christmases in your life, you’ll find you’ve created family traditions and lasting memories. Those memories, good and bad, are really what help to keep a family together over the long haul. -Caroline Kennedy
